Therese Doran was born on June 30, 1930 in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, near Montreal, Québec, Canada. Her mother was Juliette Guilbert born in 1895 in Manitoba, and her father was Jean Bernuy, who had moved with his family to Canada from France in 1907 at the age of 14 and had then become a banker.
